Best House Design in Australia 2023: Design Institute of Australia

The winners of the annual Australian Interior Design Awards were crowned on June 2, and they provide endless home interiors inspiration.

Run by the Design Institute of Australia and Architecture Media’s Artichoke magazine, the awards celebrate Australian properties across residential, commercial and public sectors, the result of work by leading design experts.

“Following the challenges of recent years, the Australian design and architecture industry has evolved and responded to its changing landscape to deliver innovation, beautiful and inspired projects across all sectors, reshaping the parameters of design and creativity for the 2023 Australian Design Awards program,” reads a press release on the awards.

This year, the judging panel included principal architects and directors of interior design firms. The jury presented the top Award for Residential Design to Madeleine Blanchfield Architects for Nine-Square Bondi, saying “it has a soul and a real sense of home”.

It’s safe to say that not many turn-of-the-20th century houses in Colorado feature gutsy floral curtains and pelmets, matching wall and window treatments and skirted floral lampshades, but few are lucky enough to have British design duo Nicole Salvesen and Mary Graham at the helm of their renovation.

The house, located in a former mining town at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, features traditional American millwork (think hand carved bannisters, chunky newel posts and high oak skirtings) and a classic timber front.

But its English country house interiors are a reflection of the British heritage of one half of the couple who lives here: ‘I settled in America more than a decade ago,’ she says, ‘but during the pandemic I craved the comfort and familiarity of the interiors I grew up with: that relaxed mix of patterns, colors and antiques that feel refined but not overly precious.’ Grandmillennial decor

Keiji Ashizawa and Norm Architects design interiors for “hotel in the sky”

Japanese designer Keiji Ashizawa and Danish studio Norm Architects have unveiled their design for the Bellustar Tokyo hotel, which aims to evoke a sense of nature in the middle of Tokyo’s urban Shinjuku district.

The two studios worked together to design interiors for five penthouse suites as well as hospitality spaces for the top floors of the Bellustar Tokyo, 200 meters above the ground in Shinjuku’s Kabukicho tower.

Norm Architects and Keiji Ashizawa Design had to take the city views from the building into account when designing the hotel rooms, which are spread over three levels from the 45th to the 47th floor.

(Reuters) – US President Joe Biden plans to mark the second anniversary of the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol with a White House ceremony, according to a timetable released by his office on Monday.

Friday’s event will mark a rare moment for Biden to address immediate issues sparked by deadly riots by supporters of his Republican predecessor Donald Trump. Their actions interfered with the Democrats’ 2020 victory certification.

Biden condemned the unrest as a threat to democracy and the rule of law, but he has rarely discussed his predecessor’s name publicly and has framed his presidency to unify and heal the country’s partisan divisions.

Entering his third year in office, Biden said he intends to seek another four-year term but has not formally nominated him.

Dezeen School Shows: a lamp made out of recycled leather from the sports car industry and light consisting of a cluster of tubes are included in Dezeen’s latest school show by students at the University of East London.

Even before its recent redesign, this four-bedroom farmhouse-style home had a lot to offer. It’s in the acceptable setting of Hedgerow, a highly sought after, peaceful neighborhood in Montecito between the ocean and the upper village, and it was built on a secluded plot with a stunning garden, and views of the Montecito mountains beyond.
