Quebec to renovate Salon bleu at national assembly

Quebec’s national assembly hall, known as the Salon bleu, will be extensively renovated with seating reconfigured into a “horseshoe” shape.

The plans were announced Thursday by the Bureau de l’Assemblée nationale (BAN), consisting of elected representatives from the Coalition Avenir Québec government, the Quebec Liberal Party and Québec solidaire. The Parti québécois does not have enough members to sit on the BAN.

The current seating arrangement in the Salon bleu is inherited from the British parliamentary tradition. It places the government and the “loyal opposition” face to face.

In 2020, the government House leader, Simon Jolin-Barrette, said he would like to see a “new layout to improve the working climate.”

The assembly’s former president, François Paradis, suggested taking advantage of the renovation work to rearrange the chairs in the hemicycle, like in France, but the idea was quickly dismissed by his successor Nathalie Roy.

Less than a week before its long-awaited reopening, contractors and staff at the Coral Gables Branch Library were busy refinishing the grand entrance double doors and transferring books from small rolling carts to dust-free bookcases.

Miami-Dade Public Library System Director Ray Baker said the renovation process was at “the end of the line,” with only final touches remaining after two years since the doors closed in April 2021.

The revamped library will reopen on Monday to the public.

The changes included replacing the roof, installing impact-resistant windows and updating the electrical and data wiring system. The library also added new furniture, carpeting, lighting, computers, ample seating options, an updated staff lounge and fully-renovated bathrooms.

Baker said 35% of the books and materials in the library’s collection are now brand new and “fresh out of the box.”

CHARLOTTETOWN — Parks Canada says renovations and repairs to Prince Edward Island’s legislature will take longer than expected.

The building was supposed to reopen some time this year after eight years of renovations and repairs, but the federal agency now says that won’t happen.

The conservation project, which started in 2015, has cost the federal government $91.8 million so far, and the bills are still coming in.

Parks Canada has issued a statement saying the bids it received for the third phase of the project were higher than expected, which prompted a new round of tenders.

The third phase calls for interior painting, heritage woodwork and new flooring, as well as a new elevator and upgrades for plumbing, electrical, ventilation and fire and safety systems.

The last renovation that our stadium underwent was in 2015 which ruled that the limit was 75,000 fans for league games and 70,000 for other competitions (Champions League and cup competitions), but now it looks like the stadium is set for an increase in capacity:

Jaguar hired a design firm for its TIAA Bank Field renovation proposal

Jacksonville Jaguars hired architectural firm HOK to serve as a design consultant for the proposed TIAA Bank Field renovation, team president Mark Lamping told VenuesNow last week.

“It’s not a project yet,” Lamping told VenuesNow. “We want to be in a place where we know what a renovated stadium looks like and how do you renovate while still trying to play an NFL game. We are in a good place. If we do go ahead, we will basically get a new stadium built on top of the existing structure.”

In October, Lamping notified the Florida Times-Union that Jaguar was in the early stages of designing renovations to the team’s stadium. According to VenuesNow, HOK won the job over seven competitors who all submitted initial concepts for the job.

A multi-million dollar renovation project has started at Moose Jaw’s Temple Garden Hotel & Spa.

Peepeekisis Cree Nation acquired the facility in September 2022. Saskatoon-based Globex Management has assumed day-to-day operations of the hotel.

Alex Fallon is the president and CEO of Sparrow Hawk Developments, an economic development corporation formed by Peepeekisis Cree Nation.

He says renovations will take place in all 181 rooms, with 60 rooms expected to be completed this year.

“We’re stripping them and demolishing the interior of the rooms down to the bare bones and then renovating all the rooms to a new very luxurious level,” he continued. “Everything from heating and plumbing, new bathrooms, carpet, the walls, the in-room entertainment. All the furnishings will be brand new, window coverings, and we even want to get to the hallways.”
