Venus Williams may be best known for her talent on the tennis court, but her passion for interior design has made her a true stand-out in the celebrity design industry – thanks to her celebrated Florida-based firm, V Starr. And we can’t stop scrolling through her most recent designs.

Although the star primarily focuses on commercial design nowadays, there are some incredible decorating ideas to be found in her firm’s projects – and many can be easily transferred to our own homes (albeit in smaller, subtler ways).

Ever since Cass Goulding was a child, she’s been drawn to vintage kitsch, watching old episodes of Bewitched and scouring thrift stores for 1950s rockabilly-style dresses. Local submissions among winners in housing design contest

A panel of experts selected four one-storey and four two-storey housing designs from the competition as winners, and the plans for those housing developments have now been made available for purchase at $1,000 each.

The floor plans for all the projects are 90m2 or less, and are all two-bedrooms and one- to two baths, but range in styles from single family homes to row-houses to a cube house.

Even though the designs came from people across Canada, a majority of the winners were locals.

Vernon’s Alyssa Quiring and Dora Anderson won with their submissions for the ‘Familiar Faces’ and ‘The Sprout’ designs.

Kelowna’s Levi Weaver won twice with his ‘The Louise’ and ‘The Francis’ designs.

The ‘Single Storey’ design by Dennis Lowe of Salmon Arm was another winner from this competition.

Five other one-floor housing styles and two more two-floor housing styles had also been approved through the contest,

IKEA bets on remote interior design as AI changes sales strategy

IKEA is training call center workers to become interior design advisers as the Swedish furniture giant aims to offer more home improvement services and hand run-of-the-mill customer queries to an artificial intelligence bot called Billie.

In April, IKEA expanded its interior design services to the UK and United States, after previously launching in parts of Europe, Australia, the United Arab Emirates and elsewhere. In the UK, customers pay £25 ($31.44) for a 45-60 minute interior design advice video call and suggested product list, and can pay £125 for three workspace design consultations, a floor plan and 3D visuals.

Ingka says it has trained 8,500 call center workers as interior design advisers since 2021, while Billie – launched the same year with a name inspired by IKEA’s Billy bookcase range – has handled 47
