House GOP Plans to Gut Ethics Commission, Block Archival of January 6 Records

McCarthy has proposed eliminating the office which is considering investigating him for actions related to January 6th.

House Rep. .

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-California), the Republican leader currently embroiled in a contentious battle over his candidacy for speaker of the House, has proposed new rules that would allow the party to remove the ethics commission that oversees members of the House, the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE).

The proposed rule change comes as the office considers whether or not to initiate an investigation into Republican representatives and open them to disciplinary action for their role in the attack on the Capitol and their behavior during the subsequent investigation. The probe was opened by the committee January 6, which recommended in its final hearing that lawmakers who avoided subpoenas, including McCarthy herself, be investigated.

McCarthy had suggested imposing term limits on the OCE, which would eliminate every Democrat on the board

a japanese beach house and restaurant by akio isshiki

Located in Akashi, japan, the recently completed ‘House in Hayashisaki Matsue Beach’ is designed by architecture studio Akio Isshiki Architects. A pre-existing coastal dwelling has been renovated to create a mixed-use project including a ground-level restaurant topped by the designer’s residence and office. The architects aim for an harmonious fusion of various elements, including function, culture and nationality, time and space, town and house, and work and life. By embracing the cultural background of the area while incorporating materials and techniques from foreign countries, the team sought to breathe new life into this ‘multinational house.’

This mid-century Guelph home blends vintage kitsch with colorful decor

“The best compliment we get is that the house looks like Megan Draper’s apartment in Mad Men

Architect Richard Pagani designed several innovative, modernist homes in his hometown of Guelph. (Photography by Nathan Cyprys.)

Ever since Cass Goulding was a child, she’s been drawn to vintage kitsch, watching old episodes of Bewitched and scouring thrift stores for 1950s rockabilly-style dresses. Her husband, Chris Bowman, prefers clean lines, Scandinavian minimalism and the modernist designs of Louis Kahn, Marcel Breuer and Pierre Koenig. “I’m mid-century, he’s modern, so together we’re mid-mod,” she says.

In 2017, Goulding, now a social media manager, and Bowman, a pilot, were living in a cookie-cutter three-bedroom Oshawa house furnished in typical millennial fashion, with a nightstand doing double duty as a TV table. They fantasized about taking their atomic-age aesthetic obsession to the next level and buying a mid-century home. They started their hunt the next

Lamborghini motors into house designs with car-inspired luxury villas

Many of the world’s premier car designers have developed a surprisingly keen interest in architecture lately. Alongside similar projects by Aston Martin, Porsche, Bugatti and Bentley, Lamborghini has now decided to get serious about its architectural ambitions, revealing plans for a number of high-end villas in Spain.

At first glance, Lamborghini’s increasing enthusiasm for architectural design seems a bit of a head-scratcher. However, there’s serious money to be made in lending its name to luxury housing. For example, its prior Dubai development was in such high demand that it was sold out before it was even built.

This latest project is named Tierra Viva and will consist of 53 exclusive villas located on a sloping site near the village of Behanavís, outside Marbella, which has long been a favorite destination for the rich and famous. The villas will come in three different styles and will be positioned to make sure

Quiet Luxury Is the Interior Trend

“Money talks, wealth whispers.” That aphorism could now be considered the manifesto of the quiet luxury aesthetic. Whether it started to build after we all binge-watched succession or grew from the runway shows of Loro Piana, Bottega Veneta, and Gabriela Hearst, the buzz around quiet luxury is getting louder and louder. While the concept of quiet luxury can’t be categorized as a new design trend (the desire to celebrate the finer things in life, with no logos in sight, has been around for ages), it’s all anyone can talk about. But what does it mean for the home? And more importantly, how can it be achieved (trust fund or not)?

Shea McGee of Studio McGee explains, “Quiet luxury is about subtleties and elevated materials, letting the quality be the defining element of the room versus a particular style or aesthetic.”
