Talking possible ‘Home Improvement’ reboots with ‘Tool Time’s’ Al Borland and Heidi

NOVI, MI – They starred on a fictional show within a huge hit sitcom which ran for 203 episodes from 1991 to 1999. We caught up with “Home Improvement” stars, Richard Karn and Debbe Dunning at Michigan’s biggest comic convention, Motor City Comic Con .

The stars who played Al Borland and Heidi are two of the more than two dozen celebrity guests meeting with fans for photos and autographs at the event taking place at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi through Sunday, May 21. Tickets to Motor City Comic Con can be purchased here.

Both Karn and Dunning have been to Michigan in the past and in fact, Karn once lived in West Michigan.

My favorite time of the day is when I can finally sit and relax and flip through the MFCH Magazine. The May/June issue is a particular favorite of mine because it is full of beautiful homes and gardens around France in the springtime. Putting our magazine together every two months is rather like making a large, colorful cocktail. We always try to include the right blend of interiors, gardens, recipes and in-depth portraits. It is a privilege for me to have this place to showcase so much of what I love about France.

Home Depot Cuts Outlook as Softening Demand Hits Sales

(Bloomberg) — Home Depot Inc. cut its outlook for the year after first-quarter sales dropped more than expected, a sign that economic uncertainty is leading to a pullback in home-improvement spending.

The company now expects comparable sales to decline as much as 5% this fiscal year — the first annual fall in 14 years — following a bad start to the year affected by lumber deflation and poor weather, it said Tuesday. Home Depot, which previously predicted sales would remain flat this year, said demand was softening more than it had expected.

The first-quarter results show the company’s performance is starting to lag after several years of soaring home-improvement spending that was sparked by a booming housing market and stimulus payments that let consumers invest in their homes during pandemic restrictions. That binge has now begun to slow amid rising inflation and interest rates.

Home Depot’s lackluster Q1 shows that the remodeling boom is over

Interest in big home improvement projects is waning. That’s one takeaway from Home Depot’s uninspired first-quarter results.

“The size of the projects are getting a bit smaller,” Home Depot (HD) CEO Ted Decker told analysts on the company’s first quarter earnings call Monday.

“It could be that the project [are] being deferred or it could be that the project is being broken up into chunks,” Decker said. “Rather than do an entire room or an entire basement, you start working it in smaller chunks and that clearly impacts items per basket in overall activity. “

On a yearly basis, customer transactions slid 4.8%, but came in better than Wall Street’s call for a 5.36% drop. Customers also spent less per ticket than anticipated, recording a 0.2% gain against expectations of a 2.63% boost in average ticket sizes.

Home Depot couldn’t keep its protracted robust sales streak going any longer. The home improvement chain reported a small quarter as consumer spending on home improvement projects – which was buoyed by the stay-at-home pandemic lifestyle – coming to a screeching halt.

The retailer posted disappointing sales for its first quarter and lowered its outlook for the year after customers slowed their spending. Home Depot (HD) said sales fell 4.5% at least a year at stores open during its latest quarter, and its income decreased 6.4% from the same stretch a year ago.

Total revenue for the quarter slipped 4.2% versus a year ago, to $37.3 billion. The retailer also cited falling lumber prices and weather-related challenges, including heavy rains in California during the period, to clink its sales.

Then he was a standup comedian who had worked his way up to earn his own sitcom. when Home Improvements debuted on ABC on September 17, 1991, audiences immediately connected with the antics of Allen as Tim “The Toolman” Taylor, a Detroit area man with his own home improvement show called Tool Time. The series was about more than the guy who constantly accidentally destroyed something or hurt himself in his never-ending quest to give a machine “more power.” As the title implied, Home Improvements was just as much about his home life, with his wife Jill (Patricia Richardson) and their three sons.

Millions of dollars in grants announced for the Hawaiian Home Lands project

The Hawaii Department of Homeland recently announced it will award 23 grants to 14 organizations. $8.5 million will help fund programs, services, projects, and facility improvements at Hawaiian Home Lands throughout the state.

It’s part of the department’s Native Hawaii Development Program Plan. The program’s goal is to enhance the well-being of Native Hawaiians through educational, economic, political, social, cultural and other services.

Grants to help upgrade existing facilities at Hawaiian Home Lands include $1 million for the public charter school Ka Waihona O Ka Naʻauao in Nānākuli for kitchen and cafeteria renovations. And another $1 million will be donated to the Molokaʻi Homestead Farmers Alliance for repairs to the toilets and sewer system at the Lanikeha Community Center.

So much for all the advantages the Maple Leafs brought in Game 1 against the Florida Panthers. Now it’s about getting even.
