Ask Angi: What are the biggest upcoming home shopping trends?

Home Improvement

The last few years have seen major changes in our lifestyles and spending, and our homes are no exception. Angi’s Household Expense Report for 2022 shows how things have changed this year, and what you can expect for 2023.

The single biggest impact on home spending in recent years has, of course, been the pandemic. As homeowners hunker down in their homes for most of 2020, they are thinking less about how home improvements can affect value, and instead how they will change and improve their lifestyles as everyone stays home more.

Now that many pre-pandemic activities and behaviors have returned, how has this affected household expenses? Angie surveyed 6,500 consumers to determine what is most important to them. It turns out that lifestyle needs are still the main driver. Prior to 2020, “return on investment” was the top motivator for home improvement spending in the Angi survey. This year,

Home Depot

continues to see a tough year ahead for the home improvement market, the company said at its latest investor conference, but there’s still a glimmer of hope ahead.

Home Depot

(ticker: HD) repeated its fiscal-year sales and same-store sales numbers on Tuesday—both declining from 2% to 5% from the year before. It expects earnings per share to fall from 7% to 13%. Operating margin will range between 14.3% and 14.0%.

Last month, the world’s largest home-improvement retailer cut its guidance when it reported first-quarter earnings. The retailer pointed to softening consumer spending—a sentiment management reiterated on Tuesday, calling 2023 a year of “moderating demand.”

“We don’t quite know what the Fed’s posture will be, we don’t quite know what the follow-up form the consumer will be,” said Chief Financial Officer Richard McPhail.

And while McPhail didn’t forecast how

When a client asks for a guest house that doubles as a yoga studio, and you don’t just deliver – but build something so seamless it looks like it was always there – well, that’s a reward in itself.

It took a whole lot of care and planning to match every angle, peak, column and soffit of the new structure seamlessly with the original – a 2015-built, 6,000-square-foot modern-traditional family home – says CCI-Fairmile Group

30 Times People Should Really Not Have Done Any Home Renovation Work Themselves

They say, practice makes perfect, and professionals know it to be true after spending years trying to master their craft. That’s why there’s usually a clear distinction between an end result provided by a professional—or at least with the help from one—and an amateur, be it making desserts or building houses.

When it comes to the latter, it’s worth remembering that architecture-related decisions require knowledge in different areas, from engineering to design, and beyond. That’s why hiring a professional is usually the sensible thing to do, as they typically have years of experience, not to mention the value of education they go through.

Be that as it may, not all people opt for professional help when building something, which often results in disasters, such as the ones shared on the ‘You Should Have Hired an Architect’ Facebook group. It is home to the best worst architectural ‘gems’, some of which

SIOUX COUNTY, Iowa (KELO) — Authorities in Northwestern Iowa are warning residents about a “home improvement” scam in the area.

The Sioux County Sheriff says that in a recent incident, a suspect was offered to paint a building on a farm.

They then claimed to run out of paint and would be back the next day to finish but wanted to be paid.

After getting the money, the suspect left and never finished the job, leaving the building in sub-par condition.

‘I just want to kill someone’: Sioux Falls man accused of pointing rifle at officers

Authorities say this scam occurs when subjects go door-to-door trying to get work in outdoor tasks like painting, roofing, or landscaping. They will then do sub-par work for a higher rate or not finish the job.

Authorities say it’s a good idea to ask for references and check them before agreeing to work. Officials

Renovation

The home of the third and final leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown is finally getting a major makeover.

A little over a year from now, after it hosted the Belmont Stakes in 2024, Belmont Park is set to undergo a $455 million renovation of everything from the track surface to a new, smaller grandstand more fit for the sport in the modern era.

Once completed, the track should host the best horses in the world for a Breeders’ Cup in the not-too-distant future, but the expected construction timeline raises the question of where the 2025 Belmont will take place. New York Racing Association president and CEO Dave O’Rourke expects a clearer answer on that in the coming months when the project is further along.

The 1 1/2-mile race known as “the test of the champion” has been run before at Aqueduct in Queens, from 1963-67 when Belmont Park was
