Incredible Sydney Opera House design secret wows the internet

The Sydney Opera House is one of the world’s most famous architectural landmarks, known for its dramatic ‘sails’ that stand out over the foreshore of Sydney Harbour. But the process of creating its iconic shape was fraught with challenges.

Local submissions among winners in housing design contest

A panel of experts selected four one-storey and four two-storey housing designs from the competition as winners, and the plans for those housing developments have now been made available for purchase at $1,000 each.

The floor plans for all the projects are 90m2 or less, and are all two-bedrooms and one- to two baths, but range in styles from single family homes to row-houses to a cube house.

Even though the designs came from people across Canada, a majority of the winners were locals.

Vernon’s Alyssa Quiring and Dora Anderson won with their submissions for the ‘Familiar Faces’ and ‘The Sprout’ designs.

Kelowna’s Levi Weaver won twice with his ‘The Louise’ and ‘The Francis’ designs.

The ‘Single Storey’ design by Dennis Lowe of Salmon Arm was another winner from this competition.

Five other one-floor housing styles and two more two-floor housing styles had also been approved through the contest,

Lamborghini motors into house designs with car-inspired luxury villas

Many of the world’s premier car designers have developed a surprisingly keen interest in architecture lately. Alongside similar projects by Aston Martin, Porsche, Bugatti and Bentley, Lamborghini has now decided to get serious about its architectural ambitions, revealing plans for a number of high-end villas in Spain.

At first glance, Lamborghini’s increasing enthusiasm for architectural design seems a bit of a head-scratcher. However, there’s serious money to be made in lending its name to luxury housing. For example, its prior Dubai development was in such high demand that it was sold out before it was even built.

This new-build home, completed in February 2022, looks as though it has stood here forever. Comfortable in its skin, the seven-bedroom home certainly makes a lasting impression. The interiors are exquisitely curated to match the home’s elegant architecture and together they put this house among the world’s best homes.

Vancouver-based Interior designer Kelly Deck worked with Formwerks Architectural from early on in the build. The owners’ brief? ‘It started with the simple description – minimally Parisian,’ says Deck. ‘They wanted the blend of old and new that our firm thrives on creating. In the end, the project evolved to be more traditional than minimal and the home itself is a very inviting and cozy place to spend time.’
