When a client asks for a guest house that doubles as a yoga studio, and you don’t just deliver – but build something so seamless it looks like it was always there – well, that’s a reward in itself.

But for the dreamy, yogi-approved outdoor space it created in West Vancouver, the CCI-Fairmile Group has won plenty of acclaim, too. Most recently: a Georgie Award for Best New Small-Scale Home up to 1,000 Square Feet, along with two Homebuilders’ Association of Vancouver award nominations.

It took a whole lot of care and planning to match every angle, peak, column and soffit of the new structure seamlessly with the original – a 2015-built, 6,000-square-foot modern-traditional family home – says CCI-Fairmile Group president John Friswell.

“We were playing with pretty tight tolerances, but in the end, it looks like we didn’t really have to think about it, which is good,” he says.
The project also expanded the home’s covered outdoor living space from 150 to 400 square feet. A pyramid-style peaked skylight now tops a secondary outdoor-living area, with a large sectional and armchairs, fire table and dining zone with ample seating.
