When I started The Inspired Room in 2007, my “slogan” was Perfect Your Home for Authentic Living. Even though I don’t use that tagline now, it still fits with my home philosophy. While we’ve certainly embarked on some larger renovations over the years, I truly find the greatest joy in the smaller enhancements one can make to one’s surroundings. I believe it is refining a process that can make any home your home.
FILTER: improve (something) by making small changes, especially making (an idea, theory, or method) more refined and accurate.
When we understand how to enhance our environment and know how to make the right adjustments, the impact on a space will be significant in all the ways that really matter.
Designing a picture perfect space is not the same process as creating a sanctuary. A sanctuary is a sanctuary where you feel at peace.
Even if you create a picture of the perfect landscape in your home, a photo can’t tell the whole story of how you really feel around you. You are the one who can write that personal story and feel its impact every day.
To create a true sanctuary feel, you must learn how to flesh out the details that will make all the difference to you and the people who live there. Those details can in time make it picture perfect (when everything is clean and the lighting is right!) but more importantly, each refinement will begin to make your home a reflection of who you are and change the way you feel when you are there.
When you learn how to enhance a room in this way, you can go through this design process with what you have and can collect over time. You’ll know exactly what decisions need to be made each season to tune all your senses! It is this consummation that will ultimately invite you to exhale and feel the peace all around you.
