Fresh from a dramatic redesign, this striking home in the prestigious Brentwood Park district of Los Angeles has got us all talking (and slightly green with envy). One of the world’s best homesit was built in the late-1980s in the Mediterranean architectural style and has two levels.

Its redesign came about as a result of a flood that had affected both floors of the house, and the homeowners asked designer Tancred Vilucchi to take charge without delay.

The designer happily agreed to the project as it was clear the owners were open-minded and trusted him to be creative with the house which he felt had massive potential. ‘The water damage was an emergency factor that created a challenge and I love challenges!’ he says.

Looking at the house now, you’d never guess at the trauma that led to its current good looks. Designer Tancred Vilucchi picks out his favorite

The Simplest Way To Keep A Reno On Budget, According To HGTV’s Scott McGillivray

House Renovation

To follow Scott McGillivray’s expert advice on keeping a reno on budget, you’ll need to “shop around” for deals and consider alternatives, like end-of-line products. End-of-line products refer to items that are no longer being produced or sold by the manufacturer and are offered at discounted prices to clear inventory and make way for new products. They can be found online and by visiting local home improvement stores, lumberyards, and specialty retailers. When purchasing, consider other factors such as availability, warranty coverage, compatibility, and the potential need for additional quantities in the future.

For a kitchen renovation, consider using stone cutoffs for new surfaces. These products are typically sold at discounted prices since they’re remnants from larger slabs. They vary in size and shape so it’s important to find pieces that can be arranged to fit your project, such as an island or countertop. They should also be made of

OTTAWA –

More than four years after MPs moved out of Center Block on Parliament Hill for the decade-long renovation to the historic building, journalists got a behind-the-scenes look at the project’s progress Thursday.

The massive project is slated to run until 2031, costing between $4.5 and $5 billion, and is on track to be completed on time.

“This is the largest heritage rehabilitation project that’s ever taken place in Canada,” said Public Services and Procurement Canada assistant deputy minister Rob Wright on the tour.

“We have to balance restoring the heritage with universal accessibility, with sustainability, with meeting modern requirements of Parliament, and creating greater access for Canadians, and creating a more secure environment,” he added. “That’s a tall order”

“The best compliment we get is that the house looks like Megan Draper’s apartment in Mad Men”

Ever since Cass Goulding was a child, she’s been drawn to vintage kitsch, watching old episodes of Bewitched and scouring thrift stores for 1950s rockabilly-style dresses. Her husband, Chris Bowman, prefers clean lines, Scandinavian minimalism and the modernist designs of Louis Kahn, Marcel Breuer and Pierre Koenig. “I’m mid-century, he’s modern, so together we’re mid-mod,” she says.

In 2017, Goulding, now a social media manager, and Bowman, a pilot, were living in a cookie-cutter three-bedroom Oshawa house furnished in typical millennial fashion, with a nightstand doing double duty as a TV table. They fantasized about taking their atomic-age aesthetic obsession to the next level and buying a mid-century home. They started their hunt the next

Ann Christensen and Reagan Miller always knew there were things they’d change in their modest North Edgemont bungalow. As their three boys got older, the spaces felt more cramped, the shady front yard never quite allowed grass to grow, and their kitchen was dark and far from functional.

Miller, a partner at the Reagan & Andre architecture firm, spent his time designing grand homes for clients, and Christensen was busy, too, in her job as an English professor — and eventually the department chair — at the University of Houston. Another factor was that the frugal native Midwesterners just didn’t want to spend the money for a massive makeover.

Today, though, Christensen walks through her home, noting how good it feels to have created a new foyer, realigned what were “jiggedy-jaggedy” doorways, reworked the kitchen and replaced
