Matching Kitchen Flooring with Cabinets and Countertops

When deciding on the right flooring for your kitchen, it’s important to consider the color scheme of the kitchen and the materials you want to use throughout the room. If you choose simple or neutral cabinet colors, a patterned floor like the herringbone style can bring a kitchen to life. Likewise, if you have a bright and bold cabinet color, a more calming, neutral floor may be a better choice. Floors, cabinets and countertops are the foundation of a cohesive kitchen design. As previously stated, it is ideal to keep your overall design simple so that you can easily tweak and add accents if you wish.

There are pros and cons to matching your floor color to your countertops. On the one hand, matching your floors to your countertops maintains continuity, just like marble countertops and marble floors. On the other hand, if

A ‘line in the sand’: The battle for the Hamptons home raises the question of what to save

For four decades “Bliss House” has stood, mostly hidden between the road and beach, on pristine waterfront property in Southampton Village as renowned architect Norman Jaffe’s first local design.

Homeowner Orest Bliss agreed in 1978, as a condition of the city granting development approval, to an agreement requiring landscaping to largely protect the angular residence from view.

At the time, several Southampton officials considered Jaffe’s modernist design “radical”, with one member of the village planning council arguing that the gabled roof could stab seagulls.

Fast forward to 2023 and the house’s architectural legacy is in the midst of a legal battle over whether it can be demolished as part of Bliss’ plan to sell the property at 88 Meadow Lane.

While once deemed too radical, Southampton officials have now tried to deem the controversial home too historic to demolish. The litigation has raised questions about what’s worth preserving in an

Lamborghini motors into house designs with car-inspired luxury villas

Many of the world’s premier car designers have developed a surprisingly keen interest in architecture lately. Alongside similar projects by Aston Martin, Porsche, Bugatti and Bentley, Lamborghini has now decided to get serious about its architectural ambitions, revealing plans for a number of high-end villas in Spain.

At first glance, Lamborghini’s increasing enthusiasm for architectural design seems a bit of a head-scratcher. However, there’s serious money to be made in lending its name to luxury housing. For example, its prior Dubai development was in such high demand that it was sold out before it was even built.

This latest project is named Tierra Viva and will consist of 53 exclusive villas located on a sloping site near the village of Behanavís, outside Marbella, which has long been a favorite destination for the rich and famous. The villas will come in three different styles and will be positioned to make sure

Ottawa city staff have released updated urban design guidelines for low-rise infill housing, outlining their esthetic preferences for residential infill buildings under four storeys. While infill guidelines have been around for years, this update comes as Queen’s Park expands areas that allow multi-unit homes and in advance of city hall’s new zoning bylaw that will do the same. With increased demand for infill housing, the guidelines will have a broader effect on housing in the city.

“Bespoke” Means Ultra-Custom Design Drury Design

The English word “bespoke” is popular in the US. We think it’s GREAT and here’s why…

What does bespoke mean?

“Bespoke” means “ultra custom” in the British design language. Originally used in the context of clothing. Its use in the world of kitchen and bathroom design coincides with the growing notion of customers seeking spaces that are unique and personal. The word helps differentiate between something custom made and something truly custom made.

Custom made meaning there’s a thorough template and you get a made-to-order unit based on the dimensions, color, material, and style you have in mind.

bespoke is when you have a general idea – and maybe even a napkin sketch – of what you want, but it’s nowhere to be found…. it wasn’t until a designer and craftsman worked together to create it. Your bespoke creations are truly unique.

IKEA is training call center workers to become interior design advisers as the Swedish furniture giant aims to offer more home improvement services and hand run-of-the-mill customer queries to an artificial intelligence bot called Billie.

In April, IKEA expanded its interior design services to the UK and United States, after previously launching in parts of Europe, Australia, the United Arab Emirates and elsewhere. In the UK, customers pay £25 ($31.44) for a 45-60 minute interior design advice video call and suggested product list, and can pay £125 for three workspace design consultations, a floor plan and 3D visuals.

Ingka says it has trained 8,500 call center workers as interior design advisers since 2021, while Billie – launched the same year with a name inspired by IKEA’s Billy bookcase range – has handled 47

While the world races to build skyscrapers that graze the heavens (we’re looking at you, Dubai), there’s a quiet revolution happening in the corners of society. The tiny house movement has gained an insane following since the early 2000s, pulling an increasing number of people toward a more sustainable and budget-friendly way of life through small living spaces. Why, you ask? Let’s just say that the sight of a tiny home, efficiently packed with every essential you can think of, can successfully make your heart skip a beat. Or two. Possibly a dozen. And we have a particularly soft spot for them.

But it goes deeper than just the feeling of living in cute, small houses. While the concept of simple spaces has a much longer history, the modern movement as we know it today took off in response to a combination of factors, including the financial crisis of 2007-2008,
